Marcus Grodi and Jim Anderson wrap up their study of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.
Saint Paul is in prison in chains for the faith. Heʼs just dictated a message to the believers and newly baptized converts at Ephesus, to be read from the pulpit. He knows from personal experience the pressures these new Christians will face, especially there in Ephesus. Heʼs racked his brain to explain how they are now to live together as new members of the Body of Christ, and heʼs prepared them for the batle. But now heʼs mentally exhausted, as all preachers are after exhorting their congregations, so he sits down on the prison floor, and speaks some tender more intimate final words to his friends, the leaders of the Church at Ephesus. This is what weʼll be discussing today on Deep in Scripture.

Raising a Christian Family, Ephesians 6:1-9 (Part 2) - Marcus Grodi and Jim Anderson
Wednesday May 28, 2008
Wednesday May 28, 2008
Today we continue studying a portion of St. Paulʼs Letter to the Ephesians dealing with issues of the family, specifically the raising of children and work. As with the verses on the relationship between husbands and wives, many Christians wish St. Paul had not addressed these issues. Our culture is very divided over what a parent can and should do in raising their children; and in many cases, especially in some public places, if parents carry out the clear instructions of Scripture, they may find themselves in court fighting to retain custody of their own children. And to some, St. Paulʼs instructions on the relationship between slaves and masters sounds down right un- Christian. How do we apply these passages in todayʼs world? This is part of what weʼll be discussing today on Deep in Scripture.

The Hierarchy of Marriage, Ephesians 5:21-33 (Part 3)
Wednesday Apr 23, 2008
Wednesday Apr 23, 2008
Today we continue studying some Scriptures from Ephesians on marriage, family, and work that many people consider difficult, outmoded, old fashioned, even down right chauvenistic. Why? Because St. Paul is giving clear, strict, unappologetic instructions on the hierarchical structure within the family. But heʼs not intending that we hear this as a laying down of rules & regulations, but rather as behavioral guidelines by which we are to form our conscience. These are not rules that we are to lay on someone else, but rather instructions for ourselves on how we are to treat others. This is what we will be discussing today on Deep in Scripture.

The Hierarchy of Marriage, Ephesians 5:21-33 (Part 2)
Wednesday Apr 16, 2008
Wednesday Apr 16, 2008
Today we continue studying some Scriptures that many Christians would just as well St. Paul had not written. Many look at these verses and then just merely ignor them as leftovers from a more primitive, less civilized age, plagued by ignorance and particularly chauvinism, claiming that they no longer apply to our modern enlightened society. Why this avoidance? Because these verses deal with marriage, family, and work, but particularly the more difficult issue of the hierarchical structure within the family. But just look around us, at the myriad of broken marriages and disfunctional families, and ask the quesiton, are we in fact more civilized and better off in this our modern enlightenmen? Maybe we ought to listen to the verses were discussing today on Deep in Scripture.
