Living Out the Interior Conversion, Ephesians 4:25 - 5:2 (Part 1) - Jim Anderson

A very important, essential aspect of our being faithful followers of Jesus Christ— faithful members of His Body, the Church—is our interior holiness. As stated in the verses we studied last week on Deep in Scripture, we are to “be renewed in the spirit of [our] minds” and we are to “put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” But for this internal conversion of heart and mind to truly make a difference, especially in our relationship with God, it must also change how we relate to one another in the Body of Christ. To paraphrase St. John, if we canʼt get along with each other, how can we expect to get along with God? This is what weʼll be discussing today on Deep in Scripture.

Committing to Jesus Daily - Ephesians 4:22-24 - Marcus Grodi and Jim Anderson

In todayʼs text from Ephesians, St. Paul commands us to put off our old nature, be renewed in the spirit of our minds, and put on the new nature. Have you done this? Many of us point back to the moment in our lives when we were baptized and confirmed or when we made a public profession of faith as the event in our lives when this happened, and then essentially rest our case: at that moment we arrived, or to phrse it diffferently, we were saved. Others of us know that this was only the beginning of our walk with Christ, and yet we wonder why it seems like weʼve progressed so little. This is what weʼll be discussing today on Deep in Scripture.

"When we look around us today at adjacent street corners in almost any city, in the pages of listings in any phone book, and in the news when we hear of Christians acting anyway but holy or united, we might wonder what ever happened to the unity and diversity of which St. Paul describes in Ephesians? What has gone wrong? In todayʼs passage from Ephesians, we see St. Paul exhorting the newly baptised believers to do the very thing that is necessary to allow this unity within the Church to exist and grow and thrive. But he wasnʼt just speaking to first century Christians. He was also speaking to us. This is what weʼll be discussing today on Deep in Scripture."

What is the "Church"? Ephesians 4:7-16 - Marcus Grodi and Jim Anderson

Marcus Grodi and Jim Anderson continue their discussion of Paul's letter to the Ephesians.
When we proclaim our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed, formulated by the bishops gathered at the Council of Nicea in AD 325, we confess that we believe in the one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church. In the passage weʼre studying today, St. Paul proclaims that the gifts of the Holy Spirit were given for building up the body of Christ, which St. Paul identifies as the Church. When we look around us today, however, at adjacent street corners in almost any city, in the pages of listings in any phone book, and in the news when we hear of Christians acting anyway but holy or united, what has gone wrong? There are lots of answers to this, but weʼll discuss a few of them today on Deep in Scripture.

Day-to-Day Living as Christians, Ephesians 4:7-14 - Marcus Grodi and Jim Anderson

Wednesday Jan 02, 2008
Marcus Grodi and Jim Anderson continue their discussion of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians by discussing verses Ephesians 4:7-14 (Continued from 2007). They particularly discuss what it means to live our day-to-day lives as Christians.
Far too many Christians do not realize or do not believe that they have anything to give or do in the Body of Christ, the Church. They go to Church on Sundays and then too often little else, rather than recognize that every single baptized believer has received a unique gift of grace, given to them freely and apportioned according to the measure or will of Christ, for the good of the Body. And far too often lay Christians think that work in the Body of Christ means only work in the Church, rather than recognizing that all of life is the arena for serving the Body.
